F.A.Q.

What should I expect in the first session?
Bring or wear comfortable clothes to change into. I find pajama type yoga pants and a T-shirt or long sleeve shirt works best. Do not wear anything too tight or constricting as you need to be comfortable and able to stretch. It is also best not to eat a very heavy meal before the massage, light snacks are fine. Hydrate well before and after: This therapy helps flush toxins out of your body and increases circulation and drinking water helps this process.

How does this differ from a regular Swedish massage?
There are a few differences. Thai massage is performed on a mat with the client fully clothed. There are no oils used and you can go about your day after without feeling greasy. Thai massage uses pressure point work and tension release similar to Swedish massage, however it combines it with stretches and different techniques such as using the practitioner’s knees, feet, forearms, palms and thumbs. Thai massage is also always full body, working from the feet to the head rather than just one area.

I have an injury, is it suitable for me?
Yes, my training includes injury rehabilitation and Thai massage can be a great therapy for everyone. I can cater each treatment to any limitations you may have. There are some medical conditions that are not conducive to Thai massage, I will assess for these before our initial session.

Is this suitable for pregnant women?
Yes, Thai massage is recommended for pregnant women as it releases muscle tension and I can accommodate everything to your needs. I am a certified pre and post natal health specialist and have experience working with pregnant clients.

Is Thai massage covered under medical benefits programs?
It depends on your extended health coverage. Some medical plans do recognize alternative therapies and have health and wellness allowances, it just depends upon your plan and provider. Thai massage is a preventative therapy that can save you a lot in the long run.

How long do the physical benefits of the therapy last?
After the massage you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated at the same time. The benefits of stretched muscles, increased blood flow, decreased muscle tension, and overall relaxation differ for each client. Basically everyone's experiences are different, but it can last hours, days or weeks.

Do you offer couples massages?
Yes. It can be a great bonding experience to get a Thai massage with your significant other. Typically I do back to back massages for couples, with one partner relaxing in the lounge and sauna while I work on the other.

How can I book a session?
The best way to book in is to email me directly at barb@westcoastthaimassage.com Let me know what times you would be available—booking a few days in advance is best. A 24 hour cancellation policy is in effect once the appointment is set.

Are gift certificates available?
Yes. Thai massage makes an excellent gift for anyone. Gift certificates are also a great idea for Mothers' day, Fathers' day, birthdays and any celebratory occasion.

How much does it cost?
I offer a 60 minute Introductory Thai massage session which fits easily into your schedule. The 60 minute session is $75, including tax. The traditional Thai massage session is 90 minutes and comes to $105, tax included.

How often do you need to get a Thai yoga massage?
There is no risk in coming for a Thai massage as often as you wish. For clients new to Thai massage I would recommend once a month or once every two months, however there is no set structure or requirements.

Will I experience muscle pain after the session?
No, this therapy combines gentle pressure point work with stretches and can be as deep or as light as you wish. There should be no residual muscle pain afterwards, just a feeling of flushing out the by products from muscle contraction and increased circulation. Some clients fall asleep during a session and others are very awake and alert, it depends. There should never be pain after a session.
